Unexperienced arranger asking for feedback

Postby dreamer » Fri Oct 21, 2011 2:12 pm

After years of singing in different acappella groups and choirs, I would really like to write arrangements for my group by myself.

As I am a bloody, self-taught beginner in writing vocal arrangements, I would be glad if there would be any experienced arranger out there who would be willing to spend some time and have a look at my first arrangement and give me some feedback. That would be great.

my $0.02 - know your singers. don't write stuff that they can't sing well. Just because that great rock tenor high c sounds great on the midi, doesn't mean it's going to work if the guy singing it doesn't have a steve perry circa 1980 range or tambre to his voice.

my opinion is that weak sounding acappella many times comes from people who are constantly trying to force their voice to do something unnatural for them. stretching occasionally is ok. it's about tessitura.

also, if you want to groove more naturally, don't put multiple people on a part.

Just my opinion, nothing more. I'm no expert at a capella, I'll admit. But the lead singer needs to be someone different. Maybe experiment with a female voice- I noticed you didn't have any in those videos????
