It's my pleasure to introduce RARB's four newest reviewers: Nicole Milano, Malcolm Piper, Shawn Pearce, and Jessica Vaughan! Malcolm, Nicole, and Jessica are all brand new to RARB, and Shawn is returning to us after a 12 year hiatus. I asked the newbies to introduce themselves, so without further ado, some introductions!
Nicole is a writer and musician based out of Rochester, NY with more than twelve years of musical experience under her belt. Most recently, she helped produce the inaugural Boston Sings festival and first ever CARAs live. Since earning her Bachelor of Music degree from Syracuse University in 2011, Nicole has worked with a variety of groups across the nation, including University of Chicago's Voices In Your Head. She is excited to be a part of the RARB team!
Malcolm grew up surrounded by the bumpin' musical scene in Burlington, Vermont. Ever fascinated by the purity of vocal harmonies, he was thrilled to be a member of the Resolutions throughout his time at Colgate University. Malcolm devoted the entirety of his senior year to arranging, conducting, producing, and directing the group for the making of their first-ever concept album. This experience was so captivating that Malcolm wound up pursuing a career in sound engineering. He currently works at a recording studio in Westchester, NY, where he helps a cappella groups from around the northeast sound their best.
Jessica Vaughan is a freelance writer and aca-enthusiast who lives and works in Boston. A recent graduate of the University of Minnesota, she now works in scientific publishing by day. A cappella first ensnared her, like so many others, in college, and even after graduation she can’t stop listening to and thinking about it. The art form (and she is just pretentious enough to think of a cappella as an art form) is intricate, powerful, and constantly evolving, and she is excited to be a part of it once again.
Having last reviewed for RARB in 1999, Shawn has been removed from cryogenic suspended animation to rejoin the RARB team once again.
No, not really.
Actually, coming back to RARB is part of a long journey back to being passionate about a cappella once more, after having been removed from the community for a long time. Shawn is also a CASA ambassador for Pennsylvania and has also been a producer for the ICCA in the past. He is the current owner of valuevocals.com, a custom arranging service geared toward groups with a limited budget. You can read more about Shawn's journey back to a cappella through this CASA.org article. Shawn is genuinely thrilled to be supplanting TeKay as the official old geezer of RARB.
Please join us in welcoming our new reviewers! We look forward to hearing what they have to say!
PS: The addition of these four talented folks to RARB is the very beginning of some exciting changes ahead - changes that we'll need your help to bring to life! What's next, you ask? Something big is coming on May 28th! More info to come, but for now I'll just say mark your calendars and have your paintbrush at the ready...
