bobblehead dolls...

Postby gmwhitley » Wed Apr 20, 2005 2:08 pm

ok, so you know about those limited edition supreme court bobble head dolls. i wonder if there could be an a cappella themed bobbleheadedness.

you know, pick our famous folk that have truly been around for years, or who will have lasting power/presence in a cappella - our supreme court of a cappella.

would anyone buy those?

here are my suggestions. my only problem is the only woman i can think of is jessika and she had dropped out of the scene... maybe someone from honey in the rock?

gabe rutman
seth golub
chris tess
(edited to add my freakin former bosses. damn, where was my head?)
bill hare
dave sperandio
sean altman
andrew chaiken
wes carroll
deke sharon
don gooding
jerry lawson of the persuasions

any thoughts or other nominations? would these people agree to be memorialized in bobbleheads?

http://www.bobblefactory.com/ i think we would only need to order 144 of each at $5 a pop...

I'm honored to be on the honorary list of a cappella your honors.

Years ago, Jessika Diamond did the research, and we both came up with some names of a larger "A Cappella Hall of Fame"

http://www.a-cappella.com/misc/whoswho.php

If you narrowed down the a cappella community to the "RARB-centered world" then your list is appropriate. If you were to consider the larger a cappella world then some justices would have to be bumped for the likes of...

Gene Puerling (whaddaya mean, who?)
Ysaye Barnwell & Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon (Sweet Honey)
Jim Clancy (Vocal Majority)
Anders Jalkeus (Real Group)
Richard Greene (The Bobs)
Keith Lancaster (Acappella)
Bobby McFerrin
Kirby Shaw
Ward Swingle
David Wright

Ah well, I'm too young to be on the Supreme Court now anyways... and old enough that my college a cappella LP (that vinyl thing) is being made into a CD for my 25th reunion this May:

Looks more like a minimum order of 250 (for human bobbleheads) at $7.50 each plus $250 for set-up:

But what a laugh thinking about it!

How about Amanda? And I think you, Guang Ming, are among the most notable yourself!

Would the hair cost extra??

Well, maybe that will balance out Gabe's hair cost...

well - when i have my own a cappella studio and churn out year after year of award-winning albums (female of course!), then we can order my bobblehead. :-)

ooh! Guang Ming bobbleheads! Bill, you read my mind. :)

I think being the pioneering music director of the greatest female college a cappella group in the history of the world qualifies, personally...

So I'm an aca-bobble afterthought?! [nods head aimlessly]

Sure- you could just make bobbleheads of the Rockapella guys first and sell them to their fans to make enough money to make the rest of the bobbleheads you want at a loss. :-)

Seriously though- it does amaze me that they can be had for only 250 units.

Ahahahahahaha. Man, I wonder if gabe's hair has gotten even more out of control during this tour with alanis he's on. ya'll knew he was on tour with her, right? this is why our cd is still in its infantile stages...the preschool teacher left.

you're a shadowy, anonymous character and often quite an ass, Tippy, but I shouldn't have prejudged that comment so quickly. apologies.

man, I wish Nonsequitur had an excuse that good. our engineer (a.k.a. me) just kept getting kicked out of studios and having equipment failures and not having enough time. :)

I thought it was "hear hear"? No? Would one of our linguistic scholars like to run with this one?

I nominate Julia Hoffman. She ran the CARAs this year, was ICCA West Producer for either 1 or 2 years, was in a group for 4 years and directed for 2, married a fellow a cappellite, is a fantastic singer, and to top it off she's hot, so it would sell well.

a cappella chicks

Postby rebecca » Sat Apr 23, 2005 9:17 pm

Jeez, guys, I can't believe nobody said Janey from the Bobs. She rocks, with the force of personality to prove it. Instantly memorable sound too.

Marie Daulne from Zap Mama might be a good choice too, tho' her US notoriety clearly has faded, and I think you could get some mileage from a generic Bulgarian Woman's Voices-type. I personally would include beatbox chica Elaine Chao, less on the scene of late, or maybe even a cappella's behind-the-scenes heroine the former Katy Santen. But that's just me.

-rebecca, thankfully faceless enough to escape all this
