The RARB Forum FAQ (please read before posting)

Postby H.F. » Fri Jun 20, 2008 5:50 am

Here is the place for all new RARB.org visitors to come and read targeted aca information and find answers to frequently-asked questions. If you ask a question that's covered in these articles, the likely answer you'll get first is: "Did you read the FAQ?" - so please do try to check out the links below to get educated a bit before posting some of the more common questions.

Anyone can post their ideas and contributions to the FAQ in this thread and they'll be added to this list where appropriate. This list is designed to be dynamic and user-generated - so please post here if you feel something else should be covered!

Added some more content. I think it's probably best to keep it to non-profits and such, just to be fair and as objective as possible (though I did include Varsity Vocals since they're so pervasive in our world). Do feel free to post here if you find something you think would be valuable!

- Starting a Group
- "Heavy" production vs. "dry" production (this is probably covered by art v. product, don't know)
- All female a cappella
- Famous a cappella types
- A cappella in my area

Just off the top ... by the by, about time for this.

Do you know of existing threads covering these topics? Or did you mean someone should write about these?

From memory of some of my "more favoritest threads"
- Starting a Group
http://forum.rarb.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=873

- Getting all female groups to rock
http://forum.rarb.org/viewtopic.php?t=1984

- Heavy vs. Dry, Real v. Fake, Magic v. Studio Magic a cappella

http://forum.rarb.org/viewtopic.php?t=57

- Famous a cappella types
http://forum.rarb.org/viewtopic.php?t=380

- A Cappella in My Area
Can't find :(

What's funny I see a lot of "oh I know there's a post on xyz but ..." Hopefully, this will fix a lot of that. Oh and that thread on the famous is out of date but it's pretty good start. Oh I know I made a post updating it but of course I can't find it.

If you need help let me know.

I added the first 3, but will hold off on the "famous aca folks" one until TheBriz posts his list in a new thread, I think, so that we have a relatively updated one.

TheBriz, perhaps check out the thread MCBC posted in case there's any on there you may not have been aware of.

I would think that the CASA League effectively covers the "A Cappella in my Area" thing. Other than that, do your homework :-P

Thanks for the heads up. I had already gone through all of the RARB posts (searching for the keyword "famous"). Still waiting for more submissions from people. I have a good list, but I have a feeling its far from complete.

The run-of-the-mill newb(ie) wouldn't know where to start let alone what the heck is this league of casas is. Try googling "a cappella in NYC" and you'll see what I mean.

True, but "a cappella in my area" isn't very helpful either, it's too general for our international community (sounds pretty cool).
If you are looking for a cappella in your area try searching on craigslist.

I don't think you're going to get many submissions from folks until you post the thread, Brad. If you go ahead and post it, you can edit it as more people add to it; it needn't be 100% complete to start. Just a thought.

Also, when you post it, were you planning on posting the group/school they are from too? Something like:

John Legend - UPenn Counterparts

etc.

Hey Brad, were you ever able to finish compiling that list?

You know what? I can't remember! Unfortunately I think I only had the list on my home computer, which basically exploded. I lost nearly all of my information. I will check my school computer to see if the list is still around. If not I will try to put it together again. Thanks for the reminder.
