We still ain't got no band

Got something to say?

We still ain't got no band

I just got the Persuasion's 1984 album, No Frills. Lotta good stuff there! I especially liked the lyrics to this song, and thought that many of you might appreciate them also. Of course the song is better with singing, so use your imagination if you haven't heard it before. In light of recent genre discussions, I thought the "Some would call it gospel, some people call it rock and roll" line was cute.

We still ain’t got no band - The Persuasions

Every night we meet to practice in the street
Underneath the lampposts, knowing harmony
Working out the parts to music that’s in our hearts
Strictly a cappella and it’s set our spirits free

And we just raise our voices and clap our hands
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band

We don’t need the guitar string, we don’t need the drum
We’ve got everything we need and we have a little lot of fun
Singing a cappella sounds oh so sweet
Underneath the lamp posts, singing harmony

And we raise our voices, clap our hands
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band

We got a rhythm section that’s deep down in our soul
Some would call it gospel, some people call it rock and roll
I don’t care what you call it, it’s set our spirits free
So tap your feet, clap your hands, and sing some harmony

And we raise our voices and clap our hands
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
We’ve been making music all these years and we still ain’t got no band
We still ain’t got no band, we still ain’t got no band
(fade out)
