New a cappella forums - progress report

Postby CASAadmin » Sat Jul 10, 2010 7:18 pm

The new forum is up and running, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we work through the integration. Combining two families of thousands of people each is going to have its challenges. We are working through them, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we find issues and resolve them.

We were able to automatically sync some accounts, where the email address used for the RARB.org account was the same as the email address for the CASA.org account. If the usernames were different, we converted the synced account to the CASA.org username, mostly because there are fewer RARB accounts than CASA accounts.

If you are not sure whether you have a CASA.org account, go to this link - http://www.casa.org/user/password and paste in the email address you used for your RARB account.

If it says that an account with that email address does not exist, please use this form - http://www.casa.org/contact and include your RARB username and email address. Someone will get back to you, and will have most likely created an account for you.

If you have created more than one CASA.org account, we can merge the two (or three) accounts. Just let us know which one you would like to be the one you keep using the contact form - http://www.casa.org/contact. I just found a script that will merge two RARB.org accounts, will let you know if testing goes well.

You can also use the forum above if you simply find something flaky. PhpBB is a relatively new platform for me, and Seth's experience has been invaluable, but there may be things that were missed.

CASA.org users, please not that FacebokConnect will not log you into the forums, but will log you into CASA.org. Once we have everyone moved into the new forum, we will revisit making FB login work.

As new issues are found and fixed, I'll do my best to post here to keep everyone informed. Its encouraging that after only a few days, new and old members have already started posting and communicating, and I hope that the vibrant discussion that occurred at RARB.org will continue and flourish here.

I just created this new CASA account since phpBB didn't recognize the email that I used for RARB as valid, forcing me to use a different email and create a new account. Would there be any way for me to merge this account with the old RARB account (username: etloben, email: etloben@frontiernet.net)??
Thanks!

Yes, we can merge accounts, and this has been the most common request, so far. In addition to what you described, there are instances where someone may have a CASA account and a RARB account, and the two have a different configuration of username and email address. There are also instances where someone has multiple accounts on one or both sites.

We can merge a CASA account with a RARB account, and can merge multiple CASA accounts, but we do not yet have a way to merge multiple RARB accounts. I'll keep searching, but if anyone has a way to do this, please feel free to share!

what if you were to merge each rarb account individually into the same casa account? or if that isn't doable, merge each rarb account to a casa account and then merge the casa accounts? eh?
