We are looking for: three experienced singers, male or female. Style: The more soul & power, the better, and pitch accuracy is a must. Vocal range: open, but ideally we'd love a bass, a tenor, and an alto (or soprano with good low range). Age range: anything post-college.
Who we are: Two members (Laura and Mike) of the formerly-Boston-based vocal soul group The Elements who are looking to revive our band in NJ. We have a catalog of about twenty tunes, some self-arranged and some inspired by the arrangements of groups like The Persuasions and Rockapella, but are eager to add new songs. Other artists who influence us (some of whom we cover) include: Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Alicia Keys, Smokey Robinson, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, Norah Jones, Bill Withers.
Our goals/plans: Twice a month rehearsals (in Princeton, West Long Branch, or wherever you are, if it's a stone's throw from central-NJ), occasional gigging (clubs, festivals, schools, weddings, etc.), making CDs, the adoration of hundreds.
Our musical priors (in addition to five years together in The Elements):
Laura: Front woman for rock/folk/blues band Laura and The Lookouts, plus Haverford Oxford Blues.
Mike: Former director and award-winning arranger for Brandeis VoiceMale, plus founder of semi-pro vocal band Similar Jones as well as the Brown University Bear Necessities.
