OUR GROUP NEEDS A NAME

Postby jon mark » Mon May 07, 2012 8:40 am

I'm looking for some creative assistance.
We have formed a mixed contemporary acappella ensemble in Austin, TX and are struggling coming up with a name.

I am open to anything creative, humorous or otherwise.

Thanks!

My advice is to avoid using a number in your name, as it then limits the group in the future if you decide to get bigger or smaller. You could try using a local landmark and basing it off of that - there was a group in MN for years called Marcoux Corner that based their name of a local iconic restaurant at the intersection of two roads.

Austinato

(a play on the musical term ostinato, meaning "A continually repeated musical phrase or rhythm."

I take it the "Texas Songhorns" was way too cheesy?

I really like steelerdaddy's suggestion of "Austinato" and here are a few of my own suggestions:

Free Range
Mixed Company
Steer Clear
Hoarse Riders
Tonestar (Play on Lone Star- this one's a huge stretch.)

Forgive this Yankee for any Texas stereotypes I may have perpetuated in this posting.

Having lived in Boston/Cambridge, if I were to have the good fortune to move to Austin, TX, I would likely start a vocal band called The Mighty Mighty Austones.
