The Workshop (NYC) is looking for basses!

Postby TheWorkshopNYC » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:36 am

Hi, friends! We are The Workshop, New York City's newest mixed a cappella group, formed right at the end of 2011. We've matched a fun, contemporary repertoire to a great bunch of people a fantastic sense of humor, great musical acumen, and myriad personal backgrounds. We sing pop, rock, hip-hop, r&b, and feel-good guilty pleasures. Equally at ease with the complex harmonies of a ballad and the in-your-face rocking out of aggressive rock, The Workshop is versatile, energetic, and enthusiastic. But we need one last thing to round out our sound: A true low bass with deep, rumbly resonance.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Extra-low bassiness, able to comfortably sing at least a low D and preferably a low C. Mobile subwoofer status (below a low C) is a plus.
  • A great ear—especially for basslines—and sense of rhythm. Sight-reading skills are a plus.
  • Total comfort on stage. Soloist and performance skills are a plus.
  • Past experience with an a cappella group is cool, but not necessary.
  • A kick-ass personality to match your kick-ass talent level.
  • Room in your schedule for our rehearsals, gigs, and hangouts.
  • If you arrange, compose (!), beatbox, or make us laugh, there is a nonzero chance that you will receive baked goods. (Note: Baked goods are not guaranteed. We might eat them all before you arrive. Sorry.)
  • Avi Kaplan. If you are Avi Kaplan, you automatically get in.

Auditions will be held on a rolling basis during our regular rehearsals in Flatiron on Wednesdays between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Please email TheWorkshopNYC@gmail.com for more information and to schedule an audition. We're really excited to hear from you!
