Soup to Nuts Recording Seminar: July 5-9, 2009?

Postby dekesharon » Fri Apr 10, 2009 11:04 am

Calling all cars:

Anyone interested in a mid-summer recording seminar?

We've gotten a nibble on July 5-9 (Sun-Thurs), and wonder if there are any other folks interested.

And if yes but not then, when?

Hey Deke,

I've never done this a cappella thing before, but I was thinking about recording some of my friends who are singer. I was thinking one mic and two takes in Audacity should be enough, right? I mean, that's how everyone does it these days, I think.

Also, will you be teaching us where to put what syllables? I've always wondered whether I should make it "zhin zhin zho" or "zhin zhin zha," and I can never quite get it. There must be a code or something.

_______________

But seriously, I can't recommend this seminar enough. You'll literally be amazed at how quickly you can put together something that you thought would/should take week months - with Bill and Deke's help of course.

Don't pass this opportunity up. If someone has expressed interest, don't just expect other people to do it, too. Get yourselves signed up early! The Burmese food is reason enough to go, even if it weren't for the wisdom that will be imparted upon you.

DO THIS.

If you can give me as much notice of a winter 2009/10 S2N as possible, I'll start saving the pennies.

Ditto everything Alex said--S2N is just awesome!

I learned so so so much, had the best time ever, and yes Burmese food.

(Talking of which... Deke I've been meaning to ask... what was the name of that amazing dish we had at lunch the first day of the seminar? You know the one I mean....)

I flew from England to attend and it was worth every penny. My only regret is that I didn't attend this BEFORE I did my group's CD last summer! It would have saved me oh-my-god SO many sleepless nights, and we'd have had a much better CD. But on the other hand, it does mean I'll be able to do a direct 'before/after' comparison with the stuff I'm recording at the moment!!
Best thing since sliced bread, this seminar.

Yeah, so to reiterate:
JUST GO! Seriously.

It's the Mandalay Special Noodle (I know - a very non-descriptive name when it comes to ingredients):

- they're not mentioning the thinly sliced kaffir lime leaves that push it over the top.

Sooz - Green Tea Salad, maybe? That was INCREDIBLE. Especially for something that started out looking like grass clippings with nuts on it. I don't know how they did it, but DAMN.

Hmm, I'll have to check this restaurant out, as that's my neighborhood! When Burmese food was first mentioned I assumed you guys had gone to Burma Superstar.

Also, yeah, Bill and Deke are awesome and stuff. Not that I've been to one of these seminars. But I know two folks who have. Four thumbs up.

I want to third Alex and Sooz's sentiments:

Go. Now. Don't even wait for July. Hop on the next plane and show up in Milpitas unannounced. The Hares love that sort of thing.

I'm gonna be honest--it was all awesome! But yes, Mandalay was the one! Thanks Deke :) Now to experiment until I figure out how to recreate it.....

Bill and/or Deke --

I have a friend (no, honestly it's not me) with some legit questions about this seminar:

How much does this seminar cater to an individual's experience level? If you already know a fair amount preparing and creating an album, and you know how to edit and do some entry- to mid-level mixing, will this seminar help you become advanced? Or, by design, does the course only cater to relative novices?

Figured I'd ask publicly in case others have the same questions, or are at least interested in the answer. Thanks in advance.

If you can't afford the "soup to nuts" seminar, i would recommend this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUKjh0ey7mc

it's basically the same thing, boiled down to 3 minutes.

Question: How much does this seminar cost? I'm absolutely interesting in attending, though the flight to CA alone is gonna hurt my wallet. :-(
