Congratulations to all this year's CARAs winners and runners-up, as well as to all the nominees! As always, the judging panel had some extremely difficult choices to make, and in many cases, the results were very close.

Just to be clear: TeKay is writing on behalf of CASA, not RARB. RARB has no affiliation with the CARAs. That said, congratulations to all those recognized by the awards.

Best Male Collegiate Song

Postby phollens » Wed Apr 09, 2003 5:28 pm

First of all, congradulations to all the winners and especially all the nominees. It's an honor..... I had one question tho....

I wanna discuss this:

Best Male Collegiate Song: Virginia Tech. Juxtaposition - “Hey Jealousy”
(from Homespun)
Runner-up: MIT Logarhythms - “Black Balloon” (from Superlogs)

First of all let me start off by saying I was surprised when Black Balloon made BOCA, but to be runner-up for a CARA?!! Something is a miss here people.... Out of the people who have listened to the Logarhythms CD, who actually think this came even close to being the best CUT?!! Seriously, they had a great CD, and some MUCH MUCH better tracks, I just wanna know what was going on when people nominated and almost gave a cara to this song, it's a decent rendition, but outta the album I really love about 5-6 tracks much more. I'd be interested in a Logs voice on this one. No offense, good track, just no way top 2 in their album, let alone the entire year's worth of all male groups. I dont want to get on anyone's bad side with this, but did this come as a surprise to anyone else? .... again i want to mention that the logs put out a great album, and perform it just as well live. And I hold nothing against the people who made the decisions, I just want to know why? And how could you come to this decision?

That came as a surprise to me as well. Having heard the album, I fully expected for it to get at least one if not a few nominations, but not for Black Balloon... especially not from a CD that has such incredible versions of Mysterious Ways, Yellow, and Man In the Mirror on it.

Subjectivity

Postby elocomotive » Thu Apr 10, 2003 11:32 am

Well, awards are subjective. Hey Jealousy wasn't my favorite tune on the Juxtaposition album either, but a rashlike reaction to any Gin Blossoms song could be behind that.

Kudos to the CARA staff for their efforts and time and a big "hoorah" for DaVinci's Notebook being named artist of the year. DC represent!
